Yesterday was 78 degrees and sunny, today is 59 degrees and cloudy, with a stiff breeze. Great day for a sail, but then any day on Cape Cod is a great day for a sail! You may think I’m a little nuts for wanting to go sailing on a cool, overcast day, but I’m sure my sailing buddies would agree that once you have experienced the exhilaration of the salty spray in your face as the wind whips your hair back while you hike out, checking to see if you can head up far enough so that you won’t have to tack to round the mark, you’re just ready to get out there on any day regardless of the weather. Not even a little rain will stop the sailing enthusiast. Then again, there is always the happy thought in the back of your mind that you will get back to shore, moor the boat, and head home to dry clothes, yummy snacks, and a refreshing beverage. The over 21 crowd typically prefer a G&T with fresh lime wedges (and lots of ice, you non-American types!), although I’ve never seen a sailor turn down a nice cold beer. Wine is for dinner and Sunday brunch. But I digress- (LOL)
What was I talking about? Oh, yes, the lovely New England weather! One of the fun things about living in New England is the ever changing weather, and we all have those memories of waiting for the summer weekend, watching the white cotton candy clouds float by in a bright blue sky, then when Saturday finally arrived, sitting at the window and gazing out at the dark clouds and drizzling rain. Luckily, the rain sometimes clears up and the sun comes out, but it’s nice to have a good vantage point to check on how fast the rain is letting up, and if the clouds are dissipating. Today’s photo shows one of a set of window seat cushions that I made for a young family in Wellesley, which was a bit nerve wracking as I had not actually been to the house to see the window seats, and was working on the measurements supplied to me by the lady of the house. Luckily, she is a very smart lady, and the measurements were exact so the cushions fit perfectly! I installed them in the winter time, which was ideal for hanging out in the comfy space and looking out at the snow (there was a lot of snow that winter!). I think that we all look forward to getting outside and having fun in the nice weather, just as once the sun gets low in the sky we all look forward to heading home and relaxing in our own space. It really makes me happy to help people fix up their homes, whether it be with window seat cushions, new slip covers, coordinating throw pillows or simply a baby quilt for the new nursery. I get a kick out of the happy look people get when their ideas have come to life, and the “Oh, my gosh, thank you so much! It looks awesome!” isn’t too bad, either.
I’m very glad that it is Friday, and I’m looking forward to spending the weekend with my family in CT. Whatever you may have faced this week, I am sending you what an old friend calls “happy ju ju,” and hope that your weekend is filled with outdoor adventures, indoor comfort, lots of love, and most of all, peace of mind.
And that is what’s up with Mayflower Stitchery!
